Gusto, Knutsford Review

Gusto, Knutsford Review

Review by Food Choice MCR

A day out in the beautiful surrounds of Knutsford for a spot of lunch at the Italian ristorante inspired Gusto.

Gusto is part of the highly successful and trend setting group; Living Ventures. They hold a raft of successful establishments. Including Manchester House, Artisan, Australasia and The Alchemist. Names like this have built a strong reputation for Living Ventures.

So with 20 years of experience does Gusto stack up?

Situated on the bustling King Street Gusto is snuggled between independent retails and perfect for a lunch stop on a shopping day.

I was welcomed warmly into a great family atmosphere with parents chatting, children laughing and knifes and forks clattering. I was ushered to a table in the heart of the restaurant so I was able to take it all in. The menu had a clear message of its important Italian roots with an array of dishes to satisfy all tastes. Whilst I was trying to take in all the menu delights my table was furnished with bread baked on site and the plumpest and tastiest olives I've tasted.

I opted for the calamari for starter - quite delicious! The calamari was a full squid so not for the faint of heart but in my opinion it's the exact way to serve it! The squid was tender and the batter crispy - although a homemade mayo would have added wow factor. The calamari couldn't be faulted!

For main; it was a toss up between slow cooked Duck and Pistachio rigatoni or the Gnocchi with slow roast pork! I decided on the Duck; I wasn't disappointed!

The visual appearance of this dish was fantastic, the pop of green on top of the deep red sauce really appealed. The duck was tender and flaked to perfection with a rich tomato base and thick tubed rigatoni - delicious! So much so we're trying to replicate in the food choice kitchen.
The wine and beer selection was great but I feel they could marry the two better. Maybe a recommendation on each dish of what wine perfectly compliments it?

Gusto would be placed in living ventures casual dining portfolio and that's exactly where it should be. Italian food is based on causal / social dining and gusto has managed to replicate this with the surroundings and food menu.

You can grab a great value lunch menu available Monday - Friday for £9.95
Including either a 175ml glass of house red or white wine, bottle of beer or soft drink.

Overall Gusto has managed to replicate the elegant charm of a classic Italian ristorante with a contemporary buzz and a modern, stylish interior.

Well worth a Food Choice Recommendation.

My trip from Manchester to Knutsford cost me just £7 return! So get out of the city for the day and make the trip; it's a beautiful market town with some lovely independent retailers.
