High School pupils pitch business ideas in 'Dragon's Den' style event

Aissa Gallie, BDM at Gusto Cookridge took part in a 'Dragon's Den' styled event at Leeds University in May. Organised by the centre for Access and Community Engagement, the event was the grand finale to a financial literacy program run in Leeds High Schools for Key Stage 3 students.

Students from a number of Leeds' High Schools were given a budget and in teams were asked to pitch their business ideas. 20 teams came to the finals and pitched to representatives from Leeds businesses and the University throughout the day until the top 5 teams were chosen for the final!

The teams pitched their ideas in front of a panel 4 Dragons and over 200 hundred of their fellow students!! Alongside the Gusto BDM were representatives from the Leeds Business School and Satander bank. The business ideas ranged from wireless headphones, to a henna design beauty parlour to bathroom space saver accessories!  The winning team were from Wakefield City Academy and their team was called 'Earth Trade'. They had made handmade chocolate with a variety of flavours using organic and fair trade produce and were going to donate a % of profits to charity. The chocolate tasted great, their marketing was very professional and they had a fully functioning website with a broad range of other products carrying the same brand, very, very impressive!

Congratulations to Team Earth Trade from all of us at Living Ventures, Richard Branson had better watch his back!!
