Living Ventures ready for Manchester restaurant battle on BBC2
Living Ventures' new high-end Manchester House opening is to be the subject of a new 'Restaurant Wars' series for BBC2. Another, The Restaurateur, will feature Russell Norman of concepts including Polpo, advising six aspiring businesses on their restaurant concepts.
As Peach Report recently reported, Living Ventures is now readying the launch of Manchester House, its new project with Aiden Byrne (pictured with LV's Tim Bacon) that will take a tilt at a Michelin star for the city. That concept and aim is to be one half of Restaurant Wars, with the other Simon Rogan of Cartmel's L'Enclume as he tackles Manchester's Midland Hotel.
The BBC says the premise for the Manchester three-parter will be the race for a Michelin star between Byrne and Rogan. "Both men think they're worthy of Michelin and Manchester stardom but this is a city that's so far been unimpressed with fine dining and a city undergoing a lot of change." The series will go behind the scenes at both operations and reveal the investment required at a top-end restaurant.
Tom Edwards, commissioning executive, factual features and formats at the BBC, said: "Food and business are two of the most popular areas in programming so it's great to be bringing them together for both these new formats and to launch such exciting new faces. Both series promise to deliver the kind of intelligence, passion and great storytelling with which BBC Two excels."
Alison Kirkham, commissioning editor, features and formats, said: "I am delighted to bring three new faces-Russell Norman, Aiden Bryne and Simon Rogan-to BBC Two. BBC Two has a real heritage in food and business. Both of these new programmes will show the real challenges facing the food business and the real passion behind those who are keeping the industry thriving."
Living Ventures is the proud operator of some of the most exciting brands in the UK restaurant and bar market.
