NRB Top Fifty Reveals North's Most Influential Operators

The most influential bar owners, restaurateurs and hotel operators in the north of England have been revealed in the annual NRB Top Fifty.

Released as part of the Northern Restaurant & Bar show in Manchester, the power list features a mix of long-established names and nine new entries.

Operators in the list include Living Ventures, Beautiful Drinks, Revolution Bars Group, Mission Mars, Graffitti Spirit, Blackdog Ballroom, Leelex, Jones Bar Group, New Moon Co, Sandinista, and Arc Inspirations.

Thom Hetherington, CEO of organisers Holden Media, said: "We received a record number of entrants to the NRB Top Fifty this year, making the judging an arduous but ultimately very rewarding process.

"There has been an influx of national brands to the north in the last year but if anything that seems to be have spurred the region's operators onto ever higher levels.

"Restaurants and bars created right here in the north are redefining what can be achieved in the local food and drink scene, both creatively and commercially."

The team from Mission Mars - Roy Ellis, Neil Macleod, Joel Wilkinson, Adelaide Winter and Dan Mullen - received a special achievement award after opening their first site, Albert's Schloss in Manchester, with further plans "to create the best entertainment venues and bars in the world".

Two other special achievement awards were presented to Michael O'Hare of Leeds restaurant The Man Behind The Curtain and Mohammed Aslam of Aagrah Restaurants, the Indian restaurants in North and West Yorkshire.

Judging was by a panel of northern hospitality experts in the fields of hospitality finance, property, law and consultancy. The NRB Top Fifty is produced in association with Kuits Solicitors and sponsored by The Russell Partnership, Metis Real Estate and Jelf Manson.

Those included in the list become part of the NRB Top 50 Alumni association as well as receiving VIP invitations to events including the exclusive NRB Debate and the Too Many Critics Manchester dinner.
