Alchemist's Birmingham Expansion A ''Natural'' Move
The managing director of cocktail bar chain The Alchemist has told Insider that a move to Birmingham is a "natural progression" for the business, which will bring 60 jobs to the city when it launches in September.
The Alchemist is a Living Ventures brand and its expansion into Birmingham was revealed earlier this year after the group struck a lease deal with Hortons' Estate for unit at The Grand on Colmore Row (pictured below).
Alongside the bar, Living Ventures will open Italian restaurant Gusto at the site, which has undergone a multimillion-pound facelift. It also operates The Botanist on Temple Street.
The Alchemist's managing director Simon Potts said the brand's first venture in the city is "natural progression" and will create a spine of venues connecting the north and south of England.
"We're expanding our business and looking to open a number of sites over the coming years," Potts added. "We've got the North West pretty well covered and we're on our way in London.
"We have a very polished product and we understand our drinks and food and work hard to maintain quality.
"We're also very accessible and spend an awful lot of time developing our people. I think we'll come away with a very refined and welcoming environment."
The Alchemist has existing sites in London, Leeds and Manchester and is readying itself for a Liverpool opening next month.
The company has also exchanged contracts on a site in Alderley Edge and new bars in Salford and Newcastle are in the pipeline, with Potts hinting further expansion could be on the horizon.
"There are quite a few other things cooking, but nothing I can confirm at this stage," he said.
"I'm very excited about it – Birmingham's a great city and I think we'll slot in quite nicely."
The Alchemist is open for morning coffee, brunch, lunch and dinner offering everything Living Ventures are renowned for – excellent service, innovative cocktails and great food.
